Libreville
Located on the coast of Central Africa, Libreville is a city with parks and sculptures overlooking the sea. Some of the must-see sights are the National Museum of Arts and Traditions, Notre Dame des Lourdes church with its blue-and-white azulejo-tiled façade, and the Grand Mosque of Hassan II, dedicated to the late King of Morocco. The city’s pulse beats on at Marché du Mont-Bouët, where household items, fresh produce and medicinal herbs are on display. To pick up souvenirs, head to Mbolo Shopping Center and then to the boutique Les Chocolats Gabonais de Julie. A short distance from the capital, Pointe Denis beach is a paradise where you can watch leatherback turtles nest from March to November. Lopé National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to a large number of elephants. Major events in Libreville include the Festival of Cultures in May and the Nature & Environment film festival in December.
